Mount Baker Red Cross to buy supply-carrying vehicle with $15K grant

The Mount Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross announced it has received a $15,000 grant from the Phillips 66 Ferndale Refinery, which will go toward the purchase of a four-wheel-drive vehicle that can tow trailers with supplies to people in emergency situations.

The vehicle can help bring first-aid supplies, clean drinking water, food and other materials to people forced out of their homes from floods. Chapter directors said it will also be good for driving through hilly areas or swamped flatland.

The Mount Baker Chapter provided emergency services and lifesaving skills to 12,210 people in Whatcom County and the Skagit Valley in 2011.
