An upcoming Sustainable Connections workshop aims to teach attendees how to build their own green roof.
The event, which will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct 29, will give attendees hands-on experience installing a residential green roof and will cover issues of engineering and design, material selection and maintenance expectations.
“Planting on roofs is one of the most innovative and rapidly growing fields in the world of horticulture,” local horticulturalist John Sweeney said in a press release. “Green roofs are beneficial to the environment and enhance our surroundings, so their slow growing presence in our community is reason for celebration.”
As part of the Ten in ’10 Initiative, the City of Bellingham has launched a Green Roof Initiative along with a policy to streamline the permitting process.
Local experts will be there to answer questions about green roofs. Attendees are advised to wear appropriate gardening clothing. To attend, e-mail Nick Hartrich from Sustainable Connections at firstname.lastname@example.org.
