Five Guys Burgers and Fries is set to make its Bellingham debut in May at 1301 W. Bakerview Road Suite 101.
Owner Michael Cummings and his business partner Jeff Howes recently applied for a building permit to do a $173,000 build-out of the 2,500-square-foot restaurant. In the end, it will have a simple layout with an open kitchen and seating for about 80 people, Cummings said. In 2008, a restaurant called Hot Iron Mongolian Grill had applied and received permits for that space, but never opened.
Five Guys is unlike other burger chains in that it serves just burgers and fries and drinks, Cummings said. And all the ingredients are fresh: employees cut potatoes for fries every morning and shape burger patties by hand.
“Nothing is small here,” Cummings said. “Our regular hamburgers come with two quarter-pound patties and our little hamburgers come with one. A regular fry is good for two people and a large fry will easily feed four.”
Cummings and Howes are also opening a Five Guys restaurant in Marysville, Wash. in April. For more information, visit www.fiveguys.com.
