Haggen Inc. has announced that a TOP Food & Drug store in Tacoma will close within four to six weeks.
The Tacoma store, located at 3130 S. 23rd St., employs 64 people. Haggen officials, with the support of UFCW Local 367 and Bakers Local 9, are working to place employees at other company stores in the region, according to a press release.
It is the third announcement of a TOP store closure made by Haggen within the past six months. The closure of a store in Lacey was announced on Jan. 23, and word that a location in Federal Way would shut down was sent on March 13.
Haggen now operates 26 locations in Washington and Oregon under the TOP Food & Drug and Haggen Northwest Fresh brand names. The company, founded in Bellingham in 1933, is the largest independent grocer based in Washington state.
