The Interstate 5 bridge crossing the Skagit River south of Burlington should open this week, according to officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Traffic will resume on the bridge once a temporary span is installed, which replaces the collapsed portion of the bridge that fell into the river after being struck by a truck carrying an oversize load on May 23.
Since then, traffic has been re-routed through nearby surface streets, causing significant travel delays for passenger cars and freight vehicles.
