I-5 repairs could slow night traffic over next two weeks

Work crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to close one lane of Interstate 5 each night for the next two weeks while they install a new culvert beneath the highway near the Samish Way interchange (exit 252) in Bellingham.

Crews will be replacing an older, plugged culvert beneath the highway. Drivers should expect some minor slowdowns through the work zone.

The right lane of southbound I-5 will close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, Monday through Thursday from Oct. 15-18. Crews will drill underneath the highway for the new 200-foot-long culvert pipe.

During the second week of work, Oct. 22-25, crews will close the right lane of northbound I-5 and part of the Samish Way on-ramp from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, to install the culvert.
