All-star major league pitcher and philanthropist Jamie Moyer will be the keynote speaker at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington’s 2012 Big Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Best Western Lakeway Inn and Conference Center, 714 Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham.
The event will celebrate the end of National Mentoring Month, held annually in January, which is designed raise to national awareness of the need for mentoring, as well as connect mentors with young people.
The breakfast is free, but donations of any amount will be accepted.
This year, the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters also proclaimed January as Local Mentoring Month in Whatcom County in order to further encourage support for local mentoring, according to a Jan. 6 press release.
Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville and Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen joined the nonprofit in support of Local Mentoring Month, along with Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen, Lynden Mayor Scott Korthuis and Everson Mayor John Perry.
