The Jeckyl & Hyde Deli and Ale House will open a second location in August at 709 Kentucky St.
The new location will have an Old West ambiance and will carry hot and cold deli sandwiches, featuring barbecued meats, as well as soups and salads, but, contrary to the Old West feel, will not sell alcohol.
Owner Richard van Dommelen said the 800-square-foot location would be a busier, more central location to sell barbecue, which has been in high demand at his original location on West Orchard Drive off Meridian Street.
He said his barbecue comes from an on-location, southern-style pit smoker, which has earned endorsements even from truckers from Louisiana and Texas, saying it’s “the best barbecue this side of Mississippi.”
The new location will address customer requests for more unique dining options in the James Street area, van Dommelen said.
Jeckel & Hyde’s second location may not be its last — van Dommelen said he plans to expand his business to three or four locations over the next few years and is now taking franchise applications. For more information, call (360) 715-9100.
