Katie's Cupcakes to celebrate one-year anniversary

The Bellingham Business Journal

Katie’s Cupcakes, which specializes in fresh-baked gourmet cupcakes, is celebrating its first anniversary in Fairhaven with a fundraiser for the Whatcom Humane Society, free cupcakes and other special events.

Owner Katie Swanson said the Whatcom Humane Society will benefit from the sales of specially designated cupcakes throughout March. The featured cupcakes will have either a paw or bone illustrated on old-fashioned buttercream frosting. Net proceeds will go toward medical expenses of senior dogs under the care of the Whatcom Humane Society.

Katie’s Cupcakes, which has sold more than 60,000 cupcakes in its first year, will offer a free mini-cupcake to each customer on March 17, its one-year anniversary. The Fairhaven shop will also make a special batch of cupcakes featuring a Guinness chocolate cake and Bailey’s Irish Cream frosting.

Also in March, Katie’s Cupcakes will accept entries for its second-annual cupcake-eating contest, which is scheduled for April 24 during Fairhaven’s Dirty Dan Days celebration.

Katie’s Cupcakes is located at 1005 Harris Ave., next to Rebecca’s Flower Shoppe. The shop has dining space that can be used as a birthday party location and also fills take-out orders for special events such as weddings, parties and business meetings. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays.
