Kathleen Kitto has been named Western Washington University’s new vice provost for research and dean of WWU’s Graduate School.
Kitto has served in interim roles for both positions since March 2012.
“I’m very pleased to regularize Kathy Kitto’s position as dean of the Graduate School and vice provost for Research. In a variety of roles, Kathy has served Western extremely well for many years. It did not take me long at all when I became Provost to see that Kathy is adept at finding elegant solutions to difficult issues and that her administrative acumen is critical to facilitating work in the Graduate School and to fostering research on campus. I look forward to continued work with Kathy as we remove the modifier ‘acting’ from her title,” said WWU Provost Brent Carbajal, in a news release.
In her time at WWU, Kitto has also served as associate dean of the university’s College of Sciences and Technology from its inception in 2003 up until 2011. She was also special assistant to the provost for strategic initiatives from fall 2011 until fall 2013.
Kitto is a professor of engineering technology and previously served as chair of that department for seven years. She also served as director of WWU’s Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Center.
