Kudos: Birch Equipment donates equipment to BTC

Bellingham Technical College diesel technology students are getting hands on experience thanks to Birch Equipment’s month-long donation of an excavator.

Jeff Curtis, diesel technology program instructor, said it’s rare for the program to get an equipment donation. Birch also donated a forklift motor for a month last May.

“This is a great way for Birch to help future mechanics and potential employees,” said Birch Equipment’s Bellingham facility manager, Jeninne Milton, in a press release.

YWCA gets a $10,000 grant.

The YWCA of Bellingham receive a letter saying it will get a $10,000 grant from the Jerry H. Walton Foundation.

The letter reads, “The Jerry H. Walton Foundation is proud to support your mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all,” according to a press release.

Jerry H. Walton started the foundation to improve the quality of life for needy men, women, and children of Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

HUB Northwest donates $5,000 to the Bellingham Food Bank.

HUB Northwest’s Bellingham Office made a $5,000 donation to the Bellingham Food Bank.

HUB Northwest’s Bellingham Office has been a supporter of the Bellingham Food Bank for more than a decade, according to a press release. HUB Northwest acquired The Unity Group in August of 2013.

“It’s fantastic to know that The Unity Group’s philanthropic efforts are being followed by HUB Northwest,” says Mike Cohen, Bellingham Food Bank’s executive director.

The donation will be used to help the food bank feed the 1,200 families that visit Bellingham Food Bank each week. More than 50 percent of food bank clients are children and senior citizens.

Ferndale firm wins contractors association award

The Building Services Contractors Association International presented its annual Image Award for large companies to Management Services Northwest, a Ferndale-based building and facilities services company. The company offers complete facilities management including janitorial services, landscaping, maintenance and specialty services.
