Kulshan Community Land Trust's June 13 social will focus on low-income housing proposal

Kulshan Community Land Trust hosts an After Hours Social from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13 at Brandywine Kitchen, 1317 Commercial St. in Bellingham.

Brandywine staff will open up the restaurant’s mezzanine for a no-host happy hour, a chance to mix and mingle with members, homeowners and friends and learn more about the Bellingham Home Fund.

Organizers of the Bellingham Home Fund, a community initiative aiming to introduce a ballot proposal that would increase property taxes in Bellingham to raise money for low-income housing programs, will be on hand to share details of the project, its proposed impact on the community and how community members can get involved in supporting the initiative.

“We at KulshanCLT believe everyone in our community should have access to a safe, decent, affordable home,” said Dean Fearing, the group’s executive director, in a May 25 press release. “For our part, we are committed to creating more affordable homeownership for our community. The Bellingham Home Fund will provide another tool to help KulshanCLT meet the demand for first-time, low-income homebuyers on our waiting list while addressing our community’s most urgent housing needs. Our After Hours Social gives community members, including our homeowners and supporters, a chance to learn more and find out ways they can take action to support the ballot measure over a drink and lively conversation.”
