The Bellingham Business Journal
A new regional leader for the Obama Administration will be making her first public appearance in Bellingham at a public event hosted by Kulshan Community Land Trust.
Mary McBride, Northwest Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will be the keynote speaker at the fifth annual Business Partner Appreciation Luncheon June 9 at The Leopold Ballroom.
McBride will talk about the importance of housing affordability to a thriving local business climate and share more about HUD’s new Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities (OSHC). OSHC aims to build stronger, more sustainable communities by linking the quality and location of housing to access to good jobs and transportation options, fostering local innovation and building a clean energy economy.
“Mary McBride has a keen interest in community land trusts and has been a strong advocate for affordable and farmworker housing here in the Northwest while serving as South Sound Regional Director for Senator Patty Murray,” said KulshanCLT Executive Director Dean Fearing. “She knows how to build partnerships and get things done. KulshanCLT is eager to learn more and share with our business partners the opportunities HUD and OSHC make available to communities like ours, especially in these challenging times.”
Historically a breakfast event, this year the event was moved to lunchtime, in part to accommodate McBride’s schedule. A buffet lunch will be served at noon. The cost is $10 for Kulshan CLT business partners and members or $15 for non-members.
