Little Tiger Toys in downtown Bellingham is celebrating its five-year anniversary on Tuesday, Oct. 8, with refreshments, prize drawings and gift giveaways.
The store opened in 2008 on 1417 Railroad Ave., next to the popular downtown Mexican restaurant Casa Que Pasa. The restaurant’s principal owner, Hans Sendelbach, and his business partners, decided to take the 1,000-square-foot retail space included in their lease and turn it into Little Tiger Toys.
Store manager Selah Tay-Song said business was difficult at first, as Little Tiger Toys opened just as local shops and other businesses began feeling the full brunt of the Great Recession. But today, Little Tiger Toys has an expanding customer base, growing sales and close to 6,000 items in its inventory, Tay-Song said.
The store expanded in May 2012, and moved to its current location at 112 Grand Ave., just a few blocks from its original home.
