Blue Skies for Children has begun distributing new and gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets to children who are homeless, low-income and in foster care as part of its Winter Warm Up Program. The nonprofit organization recognized the Zumiez Foundation and Alcoa Intalco employees for generous donations of items. The nonprofit Opportunity Council and Fiamma Burger in downtown Bellingham raised more than $300 for Maple Alley Inn at a special Fiamma Burger breakfast fundraiser on Dec. 3. Maple Alley Inn serves breakfast at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Old Parish Hall on Walnut Street on Tuesdays, and hot lunches at Faith Lutheran Church on McLeod Road on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fiamma Burger is serving it new breakfast menu from 6:59 a.m. to 11:01 a.m. daily.
Natural Way Chiropractic raised an estimated $15,000 in toys during its 19th annual Toy Drive for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program on Dec. 7. Natural Way accepted donations in each of its four offices, which are located in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, and Mount Vernon.

Through its second annual holiday turkey drive, SSK Insurance was able to distribute 240 of the birds to families in need through the Bellingham Food Bank and the Lynden-based nonprofit Project Hope. SSK, which has offices in Lynden and Bellingham, provided matching donations for up to 100 turkeys, valued at $15 each.
