The Lynden PRCA Rodeo Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign recently donated $10,000 to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center in Bellingham for the care of breast cancer patients. The donation is the most that has ever been raised through the local the  campaign, which has given $41,056 to the Cancer Center in the last six years. The 10th annual Lynden PRCA Rodeo, presented by the Northwest Washington Fair & Event Center, is scheduled during the fair in August.

Saturna Capital in Bellingham contributed $144,500 to 49 nonprofit, charitable organizations through employee-directed donations during the 2013 holiday season. Now in its seventh consecutive year, Saturna’s holiday charitable giving program has directed $847,250 to a diverse group of its employees’ favorite nonprofits.

Incentives built into Saturna’s year-end giving program encourage employees to forgo a holiday bonus for themselves, with the tradeoff being that they can significantly magnify the dollar amount directed to charities. For employees who relinquish their bonuses, Saturna increases the donations by three and a half times the original amount. More than half of Saturna’s 62 eligible employees opted to direct their bonuses to charity, which is in line with high participation rates of past years.
