Local real-estate appraiser earns industry designation

Kim M. Smith, a commercial real-estate appraiser affiliated with Wm. T. Follis LLC Realtors in Bellingham, has been awarded a MAI membership designation by the Appraisal Institute, a global association of real-estate appraisers.

The MAI is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties, and who advise clients on real-estate investment decisions. The designation is earned after successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report and 4,500 hours of qualifying experience.

Smith has been associated with Follis since 2002, and is one of five commercial appraisers holding the MAI designation in Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties.  Her professional background includes commercial property management, real-estate development, software programming and minerals land management.

In addition to the Appraisal Institute, Smith is also a member of the Commercial Brokers Association, the Whatcom County Association of Realtors, and the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

Smith provides valuation and consulting services covering properties in Bellingham and all of Whatcom County, as well as adjacent Skagit and Island counties.  Her areas of appraisal specialty include industrial and manufacturing, warehouse condos, offices, retail, apartment buildings, mixed-used buildings, land (commercial, industrial and multi-family) and special-purpose properties such as churches, mini-storage and church camps.

Smith can be reached at 360-734-5850 or ksmith@follisrealtors.com.
