Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism announced new board members, elected officers and presented awards to three of its tourism partners during the recent Taste of Tourism annual event.
John Gibb, The Willows Inn; Christine Jenkins, Best Western PLUS Lakeway Inn; and Lisa Karlberg, Bellingham Alive, were elected to the tourism bureau board.
Larry Farr, Whatcom County Association of Realtors, was appointed as marketing committee chair.
The newly-elected officers include Randi Axelsson from Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa as chair, Lance Calloway from Whatcom Sports Commission as vice chair, Sharon Baker from Key Bank as secretary, Bob Nelson from Anthony’s at Squalicum Harbor as treasurer and Trey Campbell from Hampton Inn as past chair.
The tourism agency also awarded its annual “Destination Marketing Achievement Award” to a trio of businesses on Bellingham’s Bay Street: The Pickford Film Center, Spark: The Museum of Electrical Invention and The Woods Coffee.
The award recognizes local businesses/people for outstanding tourism marketing efforts.
“Bellingham’s Bay Street district has become a great destination microcosm,” said Loni Rahm, the agency’s president and CEO, in a June 1 press release. “Locals and visitors can enjoy a mix of places to eat and things to do including movies, coffee, museum-going, concerts and outdoor dining.”
