Among Friends Adult Family Home in Lynden, specializing in residential care for senior citizens and those with disabilities, is holding an open house to celebrate more than $30,000 in improvements and its one-year anniversary.
The open house, at 612 Dahlia St., will be presented from 2-4 p.m. on July 7 and feature refreshments, live music and guided tours every 30 minutes.
As a state-licensed facility, Among Friends AFH offers six first-floor rooms, including two that can be double-occupancy accommodations. All of the resident rooms and the bathrooms are handicap accessible.
Improvements made to Among Friends AFH since it opened in May 2011 are highlighted by a remodeled master bathroom and numerous outdoor additions, including a white
picket fence, fruit trees and hanging flower baskets.
Certified and experienced care staff members have been added, resulting in a ratio of at least one care staff member to every three residents.
Owner Kim Honorof is certified as an adult family home administrator and has three years of experience as a caregiver serving clients with dementia, diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other disabilities.
She also has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Washington and is a registered nurse assistant.
Residents at Among Friends AFH receive home-cooked meals and help with daily living needs, including bathing, medication and laundry.
Weekly activities include catered tea parties, pet therapy hour and Bible study classes.
