Matia Contractors, a heavy civil contractor that specializes in underground utilities, erosion control, wetland mitigation and landscaping, has moved to a new 4,000-square-foot location at 2112 Buchanan Loop in Ferndale from its prior space at 525 Telegraph Road in Bellingham.

James Hawley, general manager at Matia Contractors, said the company is just leasing the building while the company constructs its own 6,000-square-foot facility on an adjacent property, which will hopefully be completed at the end of 2010.

“I’m looking across the street at our building pad right now,” Hawley said.

Hawley said they wanted to customize their own building to get the right mix of office and shop space, along with an open yard for additional material and equipment storage.
