Baron Telecommunications celebrates 60 years in business in May.
Sid Baron founded the company in 1952. It has since grown into a multi-million dollar business with more than 1,200 customers throughout northwest Washington.
“We’re a lot more than two cans and a string,” company president Phil Bratt said in a May 8 press release. “Although the technology has changed dramatically, the founding principles of Baron Telecommunications remain the same as the day Sid began the company.”
From the small retail store on Front Street in Lynden, Baron Telecommunications grew as new technologies came along.
In 1981, the firm moved into the telecommunications field when Bratt joined.
Baron sold the company to his son, Jim, and Bratt in 1986.
It later expanded to four offices in Bellingham, Seattle, Yakima and Wenatchee.
In 1994, the company was restructured, resulting in the sole ownership of Bratt with a focus on serving the northwest corner of the state.
Bratt said Baron Telecommunications would not have found success without its employees, several who have spent long careers at the company.
Operations director Marc Drost and senior systems consultant Karl Washburn have both been with Baron for nearly 30 years.
