Medical office to move into renovated facility

The worn down former home of the Church of Scientology Mission of Bellingham is getting a $300,000 makeover.

The renovations will convert the building, located at 722 N. State St., to a 3,900-square-foot doctor’s office, complete with 12 exam rooms and space for five or six doctors, according to Marcus Johnson, the project’s architect.

The new facility will house the family medicine practice of Bunks Medical Center, currently located at 2220 Cornwall Ave., owner Dr. Jim Hopper said. The new office will be called Bellingham Bay Family Medicine, and will be part of the Family Care Network. Hopper said the network consists of more than 50 physicians and serves as primary care for about half of Whatcom County.

Hopper said work has begun on the project, contracted by The Franklin Corporation based in Ferndale, and is expected to be finished by the beginning of July.
