Michael Murphy named first chief medical officer for PeaceHealth

PeaceHealth announced that Michael Murphy will start as chief medical officer on June 15.

Chief medical officer is a new position that PeaceHealth created to better represent the voice of clinicians in its senior leadership, said Beth Quartarolo, a PeaceHealth spokesperson, in an email.

Murphy is a board certified ob-gyn and was previously the chief medical officer for Sharp Grossmont Hospital in San Diego. He has also worked as vice president of medical affairs for Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, and had a private practice in Salem, Oregon.

Murphy will work out of PeaceHealth’s headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Victoria King, PeaceHealth’s Chief Nursing Officer, will work closely with Murphy to lead areas of clinical care, quality and safety, and patient experience, according to a news release from PeaceHealth.

Murphy received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and his law degree from Willamette University College of Law, according to the news release.
