Milano’s Restaurant in Glacier announced on its Facebook page that it is closed.
“With a heavy heart and disappointment we have to shut our doors and cease operation,” the Facebook page states. “We couldn’t survive the winter that wasn’t.”
Dave Reera took ownership of Milano’s in August 2014 from the DeBari family, who opened the restaurant at 9990 Mount Baker Highway in 1990.
Last week before making the announcement, Reera said August and September were good months for the restaurant. But winter got off to a late start and snowpack totals at the Mount Baker Ski Resort have been well below average all winter.
Earlier this winter, Reera stopped opening the restaurant on weekdays because it didn’t get enough business.
“We started on a shoestring budget and stretched the end of the summer revenue as thin as possible but we knew from the get-go that if winter was truly horrible that the business wouldn’t survive,” Milano’s Facebook page states, calling the first year under new ownership a “gamble on the weather that didn’t turn out too well.”
