ModSock, a sock retailer in downtown Bellingham, has created a new product line and is using the crowdfunding website Kickstarter to raise money for its initial production run.
The company’s Kickstarter page went live on July 10.
“Meeting our manufacturer’s minimum requirement for production is expensive and results in more socks than we can sell at our two retail stores alone,” said Urania Shaklee, owner of ModSock, in a press release. “We decided to turn to the Kickstarter platform to help us fund the initial run and create a following for our new sock line.”
The socks sell for $10 per pair, but ModSock is offering them in multiples at a pre-sale discount as part of the Kickstarter project.
Coinciding with the launch of its brand, ModSock has opened an online shop at www.modsock.com.
Shaklee opened ModSock at 1323 Cornwall Ave. in 2011. She began selling socks in 2010 at her store, The Purple Doorknob, in Ellicottville, N.Y.
