Mount Baker Harley-Davidson in Bellingham will close at the end of October.
Greg Head, owner of the dealership at 1421 N. State St., said he had considered opening in a new, larger location once the store’s current lease ended. But in working with Harley-Davidson, he said a market analysis showed limited chances for new growth.
“The decision to close has been very personal for us since many of the employees and customers are considered close friends,” Head said in a press release. “It’s been a pleasure serving our customers, and we thank them.”
Head took over the business in 2010. He employs 10 people, some who will be able to seek employment opportunities at other Harley-Davidson dealerships when the Bellingham location closes.
In the two years since Head became owner, Mount Baker Harley-Davidson has supported a number of local nonprofits, including Toys for Tots, Lighthouse Mission, Agape House, WomenCare Shelter, Boys and Girls Club, Whatcom Humane Society, Whatcom County Hospice Foundation and the Ryan Stiles Celebrity Golf Classic, which is a fundraiser for the Burned Children Recovery Foundation.
