The Mount Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its annual Real Heroes Celebration on Thursday, Dec. 6, to honor 11 local individuals who saved lives, performed exceptional rescues, provided ongoing support to those in need and dedicated their careers to the service of others.
The fundraising event will be held at 6 pm at the Best Western Lakeway Inn in Bellingham. It is sponsored by the BP Cherry Point Refinery.
Guests will meet neighbors whose compassion and selflessness exemplify the mission of the American Red Cross, according to the organization.
There is no cost to attend, but a donation will be requested. Reservations are also required.
The Mount Baker Chapter hopes to raise $100,000 in support of local disaster relief efforts.
For the last 14 years, the Red Cross has honored people from Whatcom County and Skagit Valley whose extraordinary actions have helped others.
Honorees can be people who have performed a rescue, saved a life or given their time to make a difference in the life of another.
Nominations are received from the public. A panel of community leaders chooses the most compelling stories, and those individuals are recognized and honored with an award.
To make reservations, contact Dana Browne at 360-733-3290, Ext. 1018, or dana.browne@redcross.org by Monday, Dec. 3.
