New director of Center for International Studies named at WWU

Dr. Vicki Hamblin has been named as the executive director of the Center for International Studies at Western Washington University. She will succeed acting director Rodger Gilman, dean of Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. The appointment will be effective Jan. 1, 2012.

“Dr. Hamblin understands the opportunities and challenges involved in truly advancing Western’s internationalization. She is a recognized and well-respected leader among Western’s faculty,” Western Washington University Provost Catherine Riordan said in a press release.

Hamblin, professor of French and chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, has been a faculty member at WWU since 1989 and has served as the French study abroad coordinator for 15 years. She also chaired the university’s international programs advisory committee and has served as a visiting professor in France. Hamblin received her doctorate in French from the University of Arizona.
