Bellingham’s newest nightclub is set to open the first week of February.
Pete Wasley, who owns the downtown Bob’s Burgers & Brew in the Gateway Building, has been working since October to transform the space above his restaurant into a nightclub.
The 4,500-square-foot club, called Glow, will have a metropolitan feel unique to Bellingham, Wasley said.
“When you look up at the club on a Friday or Saturday night, the name will make sense,” he said of the floor to ceiling glass windows. “It’s a different venue in that it’s new and modern. There is a lot of glass and steel and we’ve got a huge room for dancing. Plus the whole nightclub has a view of the water and the rest of downtown.”
Ever since he first walked through the space after it was remodeled in 2006, Wasley said he has dreamed of turning it into a nightclub. The view, the location and the interesting architecture combine to make it “picture perfect,” he said.
In order to test the market, though, Wasley hosted music and dancing at the restaurant over the summer to see if people would turn out. The events proved successful and Wasley moved forward to create Glow.
With the state of the economy, most people might be afraid to open a new business. But Wasley said he is confident in his business plan.
“I wouldn’t consider opening a retail store right now, but Bellingham couldn’t be more prime for a new nightclub,” Wasley said. “Bellingham is long overdue for a club like Glow.”
