Washington State University’s Whatcom County Extension published the results from the 2014 Whatcom County Community Food Assessment online.
The website features graphs and charts that detail food system challenges, collaborative projects, and changes in local food systems over time. It also includes lists of resources and organizations working with food in Whatcom County.
Graphs track everything from sales at local farmers markets to the frequency that local kids skip meals.
“It’s so valuable for organizations like ours working within the food system to be connected and aware of what partners are working on, and what resources are out there,” Mardi Solomon, coordinator of the Whatcom Farm-to-School program, said in a press release.
WSU Whatcom County Extension staff prepared the first county Community Food Assessment in 2011. The Whatcom Food Network Steering Committee carried out the 2014update.
