New tax and licensing services designed to save businesses time

The city of Bellingham has introduced new online services for local business owners to simplify the process of making tax payments and meeting licensing requirements.

One service allows businesses registered with the city to update their contact information and pay business and occupational taxes, including outstanding balances. Business owners are given a secure PIN that renews during each tax-filing period.

Another service allows businesses to apply for a Bellingham business registration and a state business license at the same time. For this service, the city has partnered with the state Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service. Applicants can still apply for both city and state licenses at Bellingham City Hall or at a local state office, but city officials said applying online is usually faster and cheaper.

John Carter, the city’s finance director, said the new Web-based options should save business owners time and effort.

More information and resources are available on the city’s website.
