Last August, Catrina Bremer made the difficult decision to close her restaurant, Nona Rosa’s Ristorante. It wasn’t something she wanted to do, but it made the most economic sense. Closing the doors wasn’t enough to keep the restaurant’s fan base at bay, though.
“I did feel like we had quite a following. I have had a lot of people Facebook stalk me,” she said with a slight laugh.
It was one of those Facebook fans who finally convinced Bremer to look for a commercial kitchen for rent so she could start catering, and that’s when she came across an ad for the Lairmont Manor in Fairhaven.
Bremer got more than she expected when she responded to that ad in mid-February. Instead of simply renting out their commercial kitchen, the owners of the Lairmont were looking for partners to cook on a regular basis for events held at the facility, which can be rented on an hourly and daily basis.
Now Bremer is close to signing a contract with the Lairmont and has officially started her own catering business. Nona Rosa’s @Large Catering Company serves all the food from the restaurant’s menu and more.
The menu is four times as big and was expanded to include fruit platters and more appetizers, and instead of sticking strictly to Sicilian food, Bemer serves a variety of Mediterranean foods.
Not only can clients find familiar Nona Rosa’s food at the Lairmont, they can also find the familiar staff. Seven of Bremer’s family members, including her sister, nephew, son, daughter and mom, have again joined her in her food-making foray.
Nona Rosa’s @Large Catering Company is available for events both at the Lairmont and elsewhere. The company’s first events will be held March 30 and 31 at the Lairmont, located at 405 Fieldston Road.
