The Northwest Therapeutic Riding Center has, with much sadness, announced the passing of one of its longtime therapy horses, “Dutch Treat,” a Dutch Warmblood horse who died at the age 31.
Directors at the nonprofit riding center said Dutch Treat set a high standard with her exemplary work ethic and personality. Some of the students at the center had ridden Dutch Treat for all of the 16 years the horse worked with the nonprofit organization.
Dutch Treat earned honors in 2012 with the Path International Region 9 Therapeutic Horse of the Year Award.
The Northwest Therapeutic Riding Center has established a memorial fund in her honor, the Stride For Distinction Fund. More information is online at www.nwtrc.org.
The centers directors also said they wanted to thank Dutch Treat’s owners, Pat Holmes and Carrie Bieber, for loaning the horse to the nonprofit over the past 16 years.
