Officials release new draft of Waterfront District plan

Officials with the Port of Bellingham and the city of Bellingham have released the latest draft of the Waterfront District master plan and announced dates for two future meetings of the Waterfront Advisory Group.

Both agencies anticipate a final draft plan to be submitted for a formal review process by the end of 2012.

Planning documents are available online at either the port’s or the city’s websites.

The Waterfront Advisory Group will review and comment on proposed sub-area changes during meetings on Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 6. Both meetings will be from 6-9 p.m., and will be held in the port’s Harbor Center Conference Room at 1801 Roeder Ave. in Bellingham.

Once the draft plan is complete, it will be turned over to the city’s Planning Commission for review, a process that will include work sessions and public hearings.

The commission will make recommendations to the City Council, which will have the authority to adopt a final plan.

A decision by the city would also need approval by the Port of Bellingham’s board of commissioners.
