Opportunity Council hosts homeowner-advocacy training

The nonprofit Opportunity Council is presenting free advocacy training for people interesting in volunteering to help homeowners facing foreclosure.

The training will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at St. Luke’s Health Education Center at 3333 Squalicum Parkway in Bellingham.

Presenters include attorneys from the Northwest Justice Project’s Foreclosure Previontion Unit, the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and the state assistant attorney general’s office. They will cover homeowner rights under the Foreclosure Fairness Act of 2011, which gives mortgage holders the legal right to enter mediation with lenders when foreclosures are filed.
