The Opportunity Council’s annual Dine Out for Maple Alley Inn event raised more than $21,000 in May to help provide hot meals for people in need.
Dine Out was held May 1 in partnership with 44 local restaurants who donated 20 percent of the day’s sales to Maple Alley Inn.
Business and media sponsors included Whatcom Educational Credit Union, Bellingham Cold Storage, Lithtex NW, The Bellingham Herald and Cascade Radio Group.“We’re grateful to the participating Dine Out restaurants and sponsors, plus all the donors who dined out and contributed to make this a great success,” said Debbie Paton, Opportunity Council community services director, in a press release. “This support, together with our community partners and volunteers, is essential to helping us continue providing hot meals three days a week.”
Maple Alley Inn staff and volunteers serve hot lunches at Faith Lutheran Church on McLeod Road in Bellingham on Wednesdays and Thursdays. They also serve breakfast on Tuesdays at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Old Parish Hall on Walnut Street in Bellingham.
Individual and business contributions also helped make this year’s Dine Out event a success. Donations are accepted year-round to support the Maple Alley Inn program.
