Cozy Corner Books and Coffee, currently located at 2500 Cedarwood Ave., will move to a new cozy spot across from Yeager’s Sporting Goods at the beginning of January.
The move will happen in conjunction with the sale of the business to Chris and Cindy Callow. The deal is scheduled to close Dec. 24.
The new location at 3094 Northwest Ave. isn’t far from the current space, where the business has been for nearly 20 years.
“We really wanted to stay close to our customers in the Birchwood and Columbia neighborhoods,” Chris said. “I’m pleased to carry on a business that has been there for many years and has a lot of devoted customers.”
The new location has better visibility and parking, Chris said, and at 2,300 square feet, it is slightly larger. Chris is taking special care to recreate the ambiance of the old space and is even building a fireplace.
“We really felt that it was the heart of the business, so we’re building a fireplace reading room,” Chris said. “It’ll be a place to relax, read and drink some espressos.”
Chris Callow previously worked in the insurance industry and purchased the business as a retirement project. Other than the move, he doesn’t plan to change much about the business — all three of the current employees are staying on and customers with trade credits will still be able to use their accounts.
One thing Chris saw in the business was the capability to expand. Once the new store is up and operating in January, Chris plans to start work on opening another bookstore in Ferndale.
