City of Bellingham officials are hosting a panel discussion from 5:15-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, exploring what steps would need to be taken for a grocery or department store to open in downtown Bellingham.
In a 2011 survey, part of the myDowntown planning project, 192 respondents left comments indicating desire for a downtown grocery store. Comments from 155 respondents in the survey wanted more clothing stores.
The panel will feature: Jim Ashby, Community Food Co-Op; Stephen Trinkaus, Public Market/Terra Organica; Kevin Weatherill, The Markets LLC; Kelly Kost, Downtown Works (retail recruitment consultants); Michelle Sandoval, Quimper Mercantile (community-owned grocery store in Port Townsend); Chris Foss, Greenhouse; and Jim Bjerke, Pacific Continental Realty.
The event will be held at 1320 Cornwall Ave., next to the old JC Penney’s building.
