Two orthopedic surgeons from PeaceHealth Medical Group will provide free foot examinations and shoes and socks on Tuesday, Nov. 29 for the Lighthouse Mission in Bellingham as part of the national Our Hearts to Your Soles program.
Warren Taranow and Carter Kiesau, along with volunteer nurses, will mark the fourth year of local participation in the program. That team will be joined by other volunteers, including PeaceHealth occupational health nurse Lori Wilkinson, who last year provided 60 flu shots on site, and Tom Broselle of Cornerstone Prosthetics and Orthotics in Bellingham.
“In addition to support from the national charities, this year we have funding from local donors as well as the PeaceHealth Foundation in order to provide these services for all those in need,” Taranow said in a press release.
Hearts to Soles, a nonprofit organization that provides free medical foot screening examinations and shoes to less fortunate people, collaborates with local orthopedic physicians and the group Soles4Souls around Thanksgiving. Soles4Souls facilitates the donation of new and used shoes, which are distributed around the world. At the event in Bellingham, approximately 100 pairs of donated shoes and socks will be distributed following examinations.
