Pending home sales jumps 17 percent in Whatcom County

The summer home selling season got off to a slow start in Whatcom County, according to the latest data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

Inventory in Whatcom County rose about 4.5 percent in June compared to June 2013, while pending sales jumped 19 percent.

The median price of houses and condos is up more than 9 percent in Whatcom County over the same month last year.

Darin Stenvers, the office managing broker at John L. Scott in Bellingham, said buyers should monitor interest rates, as they have a tendency to move up as summer winds down.

Total listings-June 2014:1,617; June 2013: 1,548 (Annual change: 4.46 percent increase).

Average list price: $304,840

Median list price: $270,625
