Mark Buehrer, director of 2020 Engineering in Bellingham, was the featured presenter at the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s Workshop on Nov. 11. The event focused on “deep green” Living Building examples that provide net zero energy and net zero water designs, both specialties of 2020. Buehrer was also a keynote speaker at the Council of Educational Facility Planners International on Dec. 5 in Anchorage, Alaska.
David Christensen has been elected president of the Northwest Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The chapter represents AIA architects in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties. It sponsors a public film series on architecture, funds scholarships for aspiring architecture students and volunteers for various community projects, including Americans with Disabilities Act compliance for the Lighthouse Mission, affordable housing for Kulshan Communty Land Trust and design assistance teams for various community planning projects.
Beverly Mayhew is the new director of communications and marketing for PeaceHealth’s Northwest Network, which includes the St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham and additional facilities in San Juan Island, Skagit County and Alaska. Mayhew was formerly with PeaceHealth’s Oregon West Region. She has more than 25 years of leadership and award-winning communication experience, including an extensive history with PeaceHealth. Mayhew has earned an Accreditation in Public Relations, as well as two master’s degrees—one in business administration, the other in public administration—both from the University of New Hampshire.
