Perkins picked as director of Whatcom County Library System

Christine Perkins has been selected as the new executive director of the Whatcom County Library System, the organization’s board of trustees has announced.

Perkins will begin her new position in mid-April.

“It’s a great time to join the Whatcom County Library System,” Perkins said, in a press release. “There are several exciting building projects in the works, the strategic framework is in place, and library use is at an all-time high.”

As the assistant director of the Bellingham Public Library for the past five years, Perkins was in charge of daily operations. During her tenure, she oversaw the opening of the Barkley library branch through a public/private partnership, and also led rebranding and public relations efforts.

Perkins also previously served as the director of the Burlington Public Library. She started her library career as a children’s librarian and worked her way into the position of department head for young-adult services at Jackson County Library Services in Medford, Ore., before moving into library administration.
