Pickford Film Center selects new executive director

Susie Purves has been named executive director at the Pickford Film Center, located in downtown Bellingham.

Purves joins the nonprofit film center after having served as executive director of Seattle’s Spectrum Dance Theater since 2010. She also previously held the position of managing director for the Northwest Film Forum.

She takes over the job after the center’s former executive director, Alice Clark, resigned the position at the end of 2013. Clark held the job for more than a decade.

In a news release from the center, James Willson, the president of PFC’s board of directors, noted Purves roles at the Northwest Film Forum and in the creation of the Children’s Film Festival in Seattle.

“Susie Purves has a tremendous background in the nonprofit world,” he said. “She’s worked with dance companies and with art galleries. Susie’s proven as an effective manager, she’s fiscally intelligent, and a lot of fun to be around.”

The Pickford Film Center is located at 1318 Bay St. in Bellingham. The PFC’s Limelight Cinema is at 1416 Cornwall Ave.
