Plan B Saloon opens New Year's Eve

Bellingham will start the year with a new late night establishment, Plan B Saloon, located at 1212 N. State St.

Several restaurants and bars have come and gone in that space in the past few years, but Plan B Saloon harks back to The Factory, said co-owner Moses Magnes. The Factory occupied the same space up until 2005 when it closed after the owner died — Plan B Saloon features one of the original neon signs from The Factory hanging above the bar.

“We were all fans of The Factory,” Magnes said, adding that he hopes to create the same laid-back atmosphere he remembers from The Factory.

Magnes decided to open his own restaurant/bar with fellow owners James Sanders, Travers Romann and Shon Shamley after their separate forays into the business world didn’t pan out.

“We all went from ‘Plan A’ to ‘Plan B, so the name ‘Plan B’ just stuck,” Magnes said. “My running joke is that I had to open a bar to get a bartending job.”

Plan B Saloon will feature classic American fare such as burgers and sandwiches and will also host local musicians on Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant will be open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
