Police release sketch of elusive Banner Bank robbery suspect

The Bellingham Police Department is asking for help locating a suspect in a robbery that occurred at Banner Bank in Fairhaven around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.

Police described the suspect as a white male between 5’8” to 5’10” tall with a medium build and dark curly hair in a pony tail. He was last seen wearing white athletic shoes, dark wraparound sunglasses and a dark blue baseball cap. His face was covered with a dark bandanna during the robbery.

According to police, the suspect walked into the bank, which is located in the 1400 block of 12th St., approached a teller displaying what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen, but no injuries were reported, police said.

Police said following the robbery, the suspect fled on a “newer” red mountain bike and rode south. Police officers and a helicopter from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office canvassed the area. Though the bike was found one day later in some nearby bushes, according to police, the suspect was never located.

Police asked anyone who knows the identity of the suspect to contact Bellingham Police Detective Grosswhite at 360-778-8835.
