Port to hold dedication ceremony for new mini solar plant on Nov. 30

Bellingham-based itek Energy and the Port of Bellingham will host a dedication for itek’s new solar panel installation on the downtown waterfront.

The dedication is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the site, which is next to Georgia Pacific’s former aeration stabilization basin on the new waterfront trail that starts at Hotel Bellwether.

itek Energy employee volunteers installed 236 solar modules at the site. The system will generate up to 70,000 kilowatt hours a year, or enough electricity to power 12 homes, according to a press release from the Port of Bellingham.

The solar modules will generate power for the port’s Technology Development Center and itek will use the installation for research and development.
