REI's corporate responsibility manager to speak at WWU, Nov. 9

Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics will host Kirk Myers for its Ethics and Social Responsibility Executive Strategy Speaker Series from 3-4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, in Communications Facility 115.

Myers is the corporate social responsibility manager for REI, a national retail co-op focused on actively engaging people in human-powered recreation and stewardship.

He designs and implements sustainable business strategies that drive efficiency, innovation and environmental benefit in REI’s operational footprint and that enable the co-op to thrive in a resource-constrained world. Myers’ main areas of focus are greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction, energy usage and sustainable forestry. He also works on sustainability opportunities that connect with REI’s products and supply chain.

Myers has worked at REI since 2002, after working in a variety of fields including social entrepreneurship, outdoor instruction and environmental work. He received his master’s degree in sustainable business from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.

The speaker series brings senior business leaders to campus to interact with students and share their perspectives on strategic management, leadership and professional development. It is presented by the Center for Excellence in Management Education, part of the College of Business and Economics.
