Remodeled Meridian Haggen holds grand re-opening on June 23

Two Haggen Inc. grocery stores, including one on Meridian Street in Bellingham, are celebrating grand re-openings on Saturday, June 23, after converting to the company’s new Haggen Northwest Fresh brand.

Haggen is beginning the second phase of a 28-store rebranding and remodeling project, which began in Bellevue last November.

The two stores are the first of up to 10 remodeled Haggen locations that will re-open before October. The other store celebrating its rebranding June 23 is in Snohomish, Wash.

The Meridian store, which was originally built in 1957, has some unique claims to fame.

Its floral shop was the first in the nation to be connected to the FTD Group Inc. floral retail network while operating in a grocery store. The in-store Starbucks was also one of the Seattle coffee company’s first locations to open inside a grocery store.

The Meridian Haggen, at 2814 Meridian St. in Bellingham, will hold its June 23 grand re-opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Activities throughout the day include a ribbon cutting ceremony, local radio coverage from KAFE 104.1 FM and KKWF 100.7 FM, a grocery giveaway, a Northwest food fare, a “Splash” (Haggen’s mascot) scavenger hunt and a Northwest harvest food drive.
