Blaine’s Semiahmoo Resort hotel will officially re-open on Thursday, Aug. 15, eight months after the property shut down.
The resort’s hotel and two golf courses, the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club and Loomis Trails, were bought for $19.5 million in June by Resort Semiahmoo LLC, a partnership whose managing member is Wright Hotels Inc. of Seattle . Coastal Hotel Group, also of Seattle, is Semiahmoo’s new manager.
After the deal was announced, the new owners said they would make a series of capital improvements to the hotel.
“We have a long list of improvements to be made. First improvements will include new premium bedding, bringing all operating systems to full functionality, and a major cleaning of all areas of the resort. The resort’s expansive spa will be restored, and all athletic facilities will receive attention to bring them to full utility,” Stuart Rolfe, president of Wright Hotels Inc., said in a news release after the ownership change was announced.
Before its closure last December, the hotel’s former owner, Semiahmoo Resort Company said the property had struggled to recover from a significant decrease in conference bookings following the start of the Great Recession.
