Several fundraisers scheduled for May, June, July

Here’s a couple of notes we’ve recently received about upcoming community fundraisers:

Express Clydesdales visit to support children’s hospitals, May 21

The Express Clydesdales team will visit Bellingham’s Bellis Fair Mall from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, and the local franchise of Express Employment Professionals will use the opportunity to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The Clydesdales team will offer photos, souvenirs and wagon rides. The team was named world champions in the eight-horse hitch and the best cart at the World Clydesdale Show in 2012, and has participating in a number of national events such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Tournament of Roses Parade.

The Bellingham office of Express Employment Professionals is located at 4152 Meridian St., Suite 201. It can be reached at 360-734-2457.

Girls Night Out in Fairhaven, June 27

The ninth annual Girls Night Out fundraiser will take place in Bellingham’s Fairhaven District on Friday, June 27.

Proceeds from the event will go to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center. Last year, event organizers donated more than $12,000 to the Cancer Center, and their goal for 2014 is to raise $15,000.

The event will feature a variety of business showcases, giveaways and activities, as well as an evening party at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal.

Bellingham Bells, Sport Restaurant to host jersey auction benefit, July 4

The Bellingham Bells and Sport Restaurant will host a jersey auction fundraiser to benefit research for Lou Gehrig’s disease during the Bells’ Friday, July 4, baseball game against the Kelowna Falcons.

Bells players will wear special edition uniforms, and throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite player’s jersey at a silent auction to take place in the concourse of Joe Martin Field. At the game’s end, winning bidders will be able to get their jerseys directly from players, with opportunities for autographs and photographs.

Lou Gehrig’s disease, also called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, attacks motor neurons, the cells that control muscles.

All proceeds raised from the silent auction will benefit the ALS Therapy Development Institute and the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter.

The July 4 game will begin at 1:05 p.m. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.

Bellingham Bay Leukemia Cup Regatta, July 26

The Corinthian Yacht Club of Bellingham is sponsoring the Bellingham Bay Leukemia Cup Regatta on Saturday, July 26, to help raise funds for blood-cancer research and patient services.

In addition to competing on the water, regatta racing teams will be asked to seek donations from friends, family, and colleagues in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Bellingham organizations and individuals can also offer support by becoming participating sponsors.

Those interested in racing are encouraged to register by May 22 at bit.ly/BBayLC. Other people interested in crewing, sponsoring or volunteering during the event should contact regatta officials at leukemiacup@cycbellingham.org.
